About Laid Back Attack . . .
Laid Back Attack (LBA) is the annual summer charity musical festival staged by the Parrot Heads of Puget Sound. Held in July of each year, LBA has become the largest gathering of Parrot Heads in the Northwest and is PHoPS’ biggest charity fund raising effort of the year and features some of the finest Trop-Rock artists and bands from around the country.
Trop-Rock is a genre of popular music that incorporates elements and influences of rock and roll, reggae, country, Caribbean, calypso and zydeco with themes and musical compositions inspired by an island lifestyle. Although Trop-Rock is usually associated with southern Florida and the Gulf Coast of the United States, its roots come from artists such as Harry Belafonte and Jerry Jeff Walker. However, the origins of the genre are most often credited to the musical sound of Jimmy Buffett. Mainstream artists like Jack Johnson, the Zac Brown Band, Alan Jackson and Kenny Chesney have songs in the Trop-Rock genre.
Laid Back Attack has, over its years, raised more than $100,000 and is considered a national destination event for Parrot Heads and artists alike and draws attendees from all over the country. LBA was nominated for the Trop-Rock Music Association’s 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017 Event of the Year Award.
The cost of staging Laid Back Attack is covered through the sale of business and individual sponsorships as well as the fees charged to attend the event itself. In addition, a Live and Silent Auction, as well as a 50/50 raffle, are held each year as part of Laid Back Attack to add to the events overall proceeds. Every cent raised beyond the expenses of staging the event is donated to the USO Northwest.
